Conducting the singers and full orchestra will be Jonathan Khuner whose vast experience includes many Wagner productions, including work at the prestigious Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, Germany. This performance of Tristan und Isolde serves as the premiere event for the new Claude Heater Foundation. The non-profit is named after and supported by the American opera singer Claude Heater, an Oakland native and current Bay Area resident, whose singing career flourished in the 1950s and 1960s. Tristan is one of his signature roles, and among his performances of the opera is a filmed version produced for Belgian TV in 1968. This film will be featured in two special events related to the main August 26 concert. On Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 1:00 PM, the Tristan und Isolde film will show (Act 1), accompanied by pre-film introduction by Maestro Jonathan Khuner, and post-film live recital, at the Legion of Honor Museum’s Gunn Theater, in San Francisco. On Friday, August 24, at 1:00 PM, the Tristan und Isolde film will show (Act 2 and Act 3), at the Berkeley City Club.
